Inconvenient Memories is a memoir by Anna Wang. Although she uses half of the book to deal with her coming of age amid the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989, she also tries to describe how the life in the 1980s leading up to the crucial moment and how people cope with life in post-Tiananmen era. Wang's narration of her finally becoming a member of the middle class but eventually leaving China due to disillusionment drew the readers in. They shared their memory of traveling to China and their relationships with Chinese immigrants in the community. The current situation in Hong Kong was also a hot debated topic.

"They asked tough and intelligent questions," Wang commented. "I have to say that they know more of China than I have expected."

The event also appealed to the Chinese American community. Anna Wang was thrilled to meet established Chinese writers who crossed her path in the past. They exchanged experience on writing in a second language.
